China's import and export volume with other BRICS countries - namely Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa - grew by 12.1 percent year on year in the first five months of 2022, standing at 1.31 trillion yuan (about 197 billion U.S. dollars), according to the data released by the General Administration of Customs on Tuesday.
The export value amounted to 656 billion yuan, up 18.1 percent, while the import value reached 651.7 billion yuan, up 6.6 percent.
The 12.1 percent growth was 3.8 percentage points higher than that of China's overall year-on-year foreign trade volume growth in Jan-May.
Specifically, in the first five months, China's import and export to Russia stood at 419.8 billion yuan, up 26.5 percent compared with the corresponding period of 2021. Trade volume with Brazil as the import and export value reached 415 billion yuan, increasing by 7.3 percent. The import and export to India saw a growth of 10 percent to reach 344.2 billion yuan, while China's trade volume with South Africa saw a decline of 5 percent to reach 128 billion yuan.
Among the exports, machinery and electronic products and labor-intensive products took up 69.7 percent of the total volume between China and fellow BRICS members. Energy, agricultural products, metallic minerals and ore sand accounted for 76.3 percent of all imports from other BRICS countries.
Trade between China and other BRICS countries has a strong complementarity. As China's economic cooperation with the other four BRICS countries keep expanding, the import and export volume is expected to sustain its growth momentum.
