China's large maritime patrol vessel Haixun-06 Saturday completed its first marine patrol and law enforcement activities in the Taiwan Strait after being commissioned earlier in July.
During the seven-day mission, the Haixun-06, or Sea Patrol 06, sailed over 500 nautical miles after departing from Pingtan island of of east China's Fujian Province, the nearest place in the Chinese mainland to Taiwan Island, only 68 nautical miles (about 126 km) away from Hsinchu City, and reaching the farthest sea area at the junction of Fujian and Guangdong provinces.
Together with 11 law enforcement boats and one professional rescue helicopter, the Haixun-06 conducted a touring patrol in the coastal areas of Fujian covering the area connecting Zhangzhou City and Pingtan County.
Over 80 law enforcement officers had a throughout inspection in territorial waters including the Haitan Strait, Meizhou Bay, Xiamen Bay and Dongshan Bay.
The patrol mission has strengthened China's maritime supervision and service capabilities in Fujian's coastal areas and improved the dynamic control of water traffic and the emergency response of ship accidents, ensuring the smooth transportation of goods and the safety of important shipping channels.
It has also tested the integrated data interaction, communication coordination and joint command ability of the Haixun-06 covering land, sea and air, demonstrating the vessel's capabilities as the largest and strongest public law enforcement ship in the Taiwan Strait.
Haixun-06 was commissioned on July 11 in Pingtan. It's the first large vessel carrying out patrol missions in the Taiwan Strait. With a total length of 128.6 meters, a width of 16 meters, and a full load displacement of 6,600 tons, the vessel is capable to reach all seas in the world except the North and South Poles.
