Noting that China and South Africa share a special comradely and brotherly friendship, Xi said the two countries, both major developing countries, are committed to upholding international fairness and justice and the common interests of developing countries.
Xi pointed out that China has always viewed China-South Africa relations from a strategic perspective, and stands ready to consolidate political mutual trust with South Africa and push for greater development of the China-South Africa comprehensive strategic partnership.
Underscoring that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in October set the central task of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization, Xi said that China's development is believed to be able to bring more opportunities to South Africa and the rest of the world.
China stands ready to strengthen exchanges on governance experience with South Africa, support South Africa in exploring a modernization path suited to its national conditions, enhance synergy between the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the South African Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan, deepen cooperation in such fields as trade, investment and energy, facilitate the implementation of the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in South Africa, encourage Chinese companies to invest and operate in South Africa, and expand imports of high-quality South African products, Xi said.
China also supports South Africa in assuming the rotating presidency of BRICS next year, and will work with South Africa to further deepen China-Africa solidarity and cooperation, strengthen coordination on international affairs, and jointly cope with such global challenges as climate change, food and energy security, he said.
For his part, Ramaphosa extended congratulations once again to Xi on his re-election as general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.
He thanked China for providing valuable assistance for South Africa and other African countries in fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, and also taking the lead to help African countries ease their debt crisis.
Noting that China is an important strategic partner of South Africa, Ramaphosa said that South Africa will continue to, without hesitation, firmly uphold the one-China principle, and is willing to learn from China's experience in green development and energy transformation, actively participate in Belt and Road cooperation, and open its door to welcome Chinese enterprises to invest and conduct cooperation in South Africa.
South Africa also hopes to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China within BRICS and other multilateral frameworks, he said.
BRICS is the acronym for an emerging-market group that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The BRICS countries account for about a quarter of the world economy and over 40 percent of the global population.
