Rescue operations and the resettlement of those affected by the disaster continued on Wednesday after a 5.6-magnitude quake jolted Indonesia's province of West Java, killing at least 271.
The quake struck on Monday at 13:21 Jakarta time with the epicenter located 10 km southwest of the district of Cianjur, flattening most of the buildings in the hardest-hit area.
The Indonesian government as well as some charities and volunteers have provided food, water and medical services for locals affected by the quake. They are also giving mental health counseling for women and children.
One of the children survived the disaster is 11-year-old Riza. He is living in a shelter together with his family as their house was damaged by the quake. With the support of volunteers at the makeshift shelter, the boy has become optimistic again.
"I have a lot of things to do in the tent, such as telling stories, playing, and chatting with my friends. I hope that our house will be rebuilt soon and we can receive more help," he said.
Idang Setiabudi is a volunteer among the over 6,000 rescuers organized by the Indonesian government. Over the past three days after the quake, he and others have been racing against time to search for survivors and managed to rescue many.
