Storyline

A series of colorful events including tourism activities, winter sports and art exhibitions to celebrate the upcoming 2023 Chinese Spring Festival will be held to meet people's cultural demands and boost the consumption recovery, China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced on Wednesday.

The ministry gave a briefing on measures to promote tourism consumption and market supply during New Year's Day and Spring Festival. With the adjustments to China's COVID-19 response, it is estimated that winter tourism and its side-line range of products will be promoted to further boost social confidence, accelerate the release of the strong resilience of tourism consumption, and contribute to the recovery and expansion of the overall consumption.

It is noted that various cultural activities covering folk performances, exhibitions, and cultural tours will also be held to celebrate the festivals.

Li Xiaosong, deputy director of the intangible cultural heritage department of China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, believes this year's activities will better create a festive atmosphere, as more than 200 intangible cultural heritage items featured with Chinese Lunar New Year will be on show.

"The related activities of intangible cultural heritage will offer rich resources to enrich people's cultural life during the Spring Festival and build an important platform for people to participate in the inheritance of excellent traditional Chinese culture," Li said.

The upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, which will be the Year of the Rabbit, falls on Jan. 22, 2023.

The Spring Festival is China's grandest traditional festival when people across the country return to their hometowns for celebrations and family reunions.
