Many heads of the international agencies and foreign dignitaries have extended to the Chinese people their best wishes for the Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, which fell on Sunday.

Jan 22, 2023 marks the start of the New Year of the Rabbit, the fourth animal sign of the Chinese zodiac.

This year's Spring Festival, starting from Jan. 21 and culminating with the Lantern Festival on Feb 5, is being celebrated by Chinese around the globe with family reunions and traditional activities.

Gilbert F. Houngbo, director-general of the International Labour Organization, sent his Spring Festival greetings from Davos, Switzerland on Jan. 19 when he was attending the annual World Economic Forum.

"I want to use this opportunity to say happy new lunar year to all colleagues and the citizens, all that are celebrating the new year in China and elsewhere. Happy Rabbit New Year," said Houngbo.

On Jan 18, China's permanent delegation to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) held a 2023 Chinese New Year reception at the organization's headquarters in Paris, France.

Among the attendees was Vladimir Ryabinin, executive secretary of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and assistant director-general of UNESCO.

"I hope that the Year of the Rabbit will bring us peace and harmony in the world. So, on behalf of UNESCO, I wish you happiness. Very, very happy. So, that is my wish to Chinese people and people around the world," he said.

Sylvia Elizabeth Lucas, deputy chairperson of the National Council of Provinces in South Africa, highlighted the great achievements in all aspects made by the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of China when extending her best wishes for the Spring Festival.

"Happy New Year to the people of the People's Republic of China. I think it is very important for the people of China, because their Party has, ever since they started to develop over the past 10 to 20 years, they have made sure that there is a revolutionary boom in terms of changing the lives of the people of China," she said.

Ishmael Kalsakau, Prime Minister of Vanuatu and his wife also joined other world leaders in extending their best Chinese New Year message.

"Happy new year with the best wishes from the Republic of Vanuatu. Happy Spring Festival," said the couple.

Gilbert F. Houngbo, directeur général de l'Organisation internationale du travail, a envoyé ses vœux pour la fête du Printemps à Davos, en Suisse, le 19 janvier, alors qu'il participait à la réunion annuelle du Forum économique mondial.

Parmi les invités figurait Vladimir Ryabinin, secrétaire exécutif de la Commission océanographique intergouvernementale de l'UNESCO et sous-directeur général de l'UNESCO.

Leiter internationaler Organisationen und ausländische Spitzenpolitiker haben ihre besten Wünsche für das chinesische Neujahrsfest übermittelt.

Am 22. Januar 2023 begann das neue Jahr des Hasen, des zwölften Tiers der chinesischen Tierkreiszeichen.

Das diesjährige Frühlingsfest, das am 21. Januar begann und mit dem Laternenfest am 5. Februar endet, wird von Chinesen in aller Welt mit Familientreffen und traditionellen Aktivitäten gefeiert.

Gilbert F. Houngbo, Generaldirektor der Internationalen Arbeitsorganisation, sendete am 19. Januar seine Frühlingsfestgrüße aus dem schweizerischen Davos, wo er am Weltwirtschaftsforum teilnahm.

„Ich möchte diese Gelegenheit nutzen, um allen Kollegen und den Bürgern, die das neue Jahr in China und anderswo feiern, ein frohes neues Jahr zu wünschen. Frohes Jahr des Hasen!”, sagte Houngbo.

Am 18. Januar gab die Ständige Vertretung Chinas bei der Organisation der Vereinten Nationen für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Kultur (UNESCO) einen Empfang zum chinesischen Neujahr 2023 am Sitz der Organisation in Paris.

Zu den Teilnehmern gehörte auch Wladimir Rjabinin, Exekutivsekretär der Zwischenstaatlichen Ozeanographischen Kommission der UNESCO und stellvertretender Generaldirektor der UNESCO.

„Ich hoffe, dass das Jahr des Hasen uns Frieden und Harmonie in der Welt bringen wird. Ich wünsche Ihnen im Namen der UNESCO Glück. Sehr, sehr viel Glück! Das ist mein Wunsch an das chinesische Volk und an die Menschen auf der ganzen Welt“, sagte er.

„Ich wünsche den Menschen in der Volksrepublik China ein frohes neues Jahr.
