Storyline

Cities across China have been turned into a sea of colorful lights to celebrate the Spring Festival, creating a joyful atmosphere that has attracted flocks of locals and tourists.

Hepu County in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been illuminated by dazzling lights. As night fell, local residents and tourists gathered on the riverbanks and enjoyed the light show in a festive mood.

A spectacular molten iron fireworks performance was staged in the county to pray for peace and prosperity in the Lunar New Year.

Performers also presented a show telling the story of the Maritime Silk Road as coastal Hepu County and its port played a role in trade on the Maritime Silk Road during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24).

"It's the first time that I didn't spend the Spring Festival holiday at home, but in the scenic spot which is has a strong festive atmosphere. Just now I watched a show about the Maritime Silk Road, which is our historical and cultural heritage," said Peng, a tourist from north China's Shanxi Province.
"I watched dazzling firework and molten iron shows tonight. I hope our country can be more prosperous in the new year," said Ye Qinglin, a local resident.

Enyang District of Bazhong City, southwest China's Sichuan Province wowed both local residents and tourists with spectacular light and lantern shows.

A total of 45 sets of lanterns in diverse shapes have lit the night sky at 18:30 every day since Jan 17 in celebration of the Chinese New Year, the country's most important festival which fell on Sunday this year.

The district has received more than 100,000 visitors in the first two evenings of the lunar new year.

The lantern show will last until the Lantern Festival, the climactic end to the Chinese New Year holiday which will fall on Feb 5 this year.
