Storyline


The Ministry of Culture and Tourism estimated that China's holidaymakers made 308 million domestic trips during the Spring Festival holiday this year, up 23.1 percent year on year, and 88.6 percent of the level in the same period of 2019.

During the week-long holiday that started on January 21, a domestic tourism revenue of 375.843 billion yuan (around 55.41 billion U.S. dollars) was made, up 30 percent year on year, and 73.1 percent of the revenue level in the same period of 2019.

The holidaymakers enjoyed a rich variety of cultural and tourism options.

A total of 10,739 A-level tourist attractions were open normally, accounting for 73.5 percent of the national total.

People could opt to take ice and snow tours, experience folklore activities, enjoy performances and go to exhibitions and lantern shows.

According to incomplete statistics, more than 9,400 commercial performances were staged nationwide during the Spring Festival holiday, a year-on-year increase of 40.92 percent over 2022 and 22.5 percent over 2019, with the box office revenue registering 378 million yuan (around 55.72 million U.S. dollars) and audiences totaling 3.238 million.

The localities issued coupons to buoy the consumption.

Incomplete statistics show that 1,281 A-level tourist attractions, or 9 percent of the national total, were open for free during the Spring Festival holiday, of which 62 5A-level tourist attractions were free of admission. East China's Shandong Province has allocated 210 million yuan (around 30.96 million U.S. dollars) to stimulate tourism.

Various activities with local features were put up.

Coastal city Sanya, a popular resort on the southern tip of the island province of Hainan, turned out many water activities and Spring Festival celebrations.

Heilongjiang Province in the northeast combined its ice and snow resources with intangible cultural heritage to attract tourists.

China has also witnessed a night-time consumption boom as people preferred to spend their nights out to seek joy and leisure.

Beijing's Badaling Great Wall was open for the first time at night during the Spring Festival holiday. The renowned ancient city of Xi'an in northwest China's Shaanxi Province held shows of gigantic lanterns and live performances on its renowned ancient city wall.
