Chinese rescuers on Thursday saved a pregnant woman from the rubble of an eight-story collapsed building since they arrived and joined relief efforts in Türkiye's southern province of Hatay, a region suffering the most loss of life in Monday's earthquakes with at least 872 casualties, on Wednesday evening.
The quake survivor, retrieved from the debris at 01:30 Thursday local time, is the first person saved by the 82-member Chinese rescue team, together with local rescuers.
The team, dispatched by the Chinese Ministry of Emergency Management at the request of the Turkish government, arrived in Türkiye in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The team, composed of personnel from the Beijing fire and rescue corps, the National Earthquake Response Support Service and the Emergency General Hospital in Beijing, carried with them rescue equipment and supplies.
According to the latest statistics, Monday's devastating earthquakes in southern Türkiye and northern Syria have killed 9,057 people in Türkiye and 3,480 in Syria.
