Storyline

Chinese job hunters with skills related to artificial intelligence (AI) are enjoying pronounced competitive advantages during this year's spring recruitment season.

At a campus job fair in Beijing, graduates majoring in artificial intelligence (AI) have become the most sought-after candidates in this year's job market.

"I'm a student majoring in AI, and I have also learned the knowledge related to automation. Personally, I want to engage in the work related to my major," said Zhang Zilong, a fresh graduate majoring in AI.

At present, the application scenarios of the AI technology are constantly enriched in the context of industrial upgrading in manufacturing, finance, medical and other fields, which has led to a surge in demand and pay for professionals.

"I have a master's degree in AI. I think the employment situation in our major is quite optimistic," said Shi Jun, another fresh graduate majoring in AI.

"AI should be said to be a relatively popular major in the market in recent years. In particular, the major is unusually popular this year. All the different sectors may have some professional needs related to artificial intelligence," said Liu Xiaojie, director of the Student Employment Guidance Center of the Beijing University of Science and Technology.

In the job market, the demand for talents related to AI continues to rise.

Huaqiao University in east China's Fujian Province began to offer a wider range of courses such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and smart manufacturing three years ago. Although the students who study related majors have not yet graduated, some local companies are already starting to discuss internships and employment opportunities with these students.

"The traditional manufacturing industry in Fujian is also actively upgrading and transforming with digital intelligence. Local enterprises are in urgent need of a large number of professionals in artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, big data and other technologies," said Zeng Huanqiang, dean of the School of Engineering at Huaqiao University.

Since 2018, Chinese universities have been preparing to offer AI courses, which currently cover intelligent science and technology, big data, robotics engineering, intelligent vehicles and others areas of study.

The rapid development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data and cloud computing are expected to help create more job opportunities in China.
