Storyline

A Chinese battleship fleet recently organized a military drill in the South China Sea to test new combat tactics.

The detachment, composed of multiple types of main battleships, conducted training for four days and three nights, continuously carrying out exercise on subjects including sea assaults, coordinated air defense, and joint anti-submarine operations for over 80 hours to test new results of the use of tactics and training methods.

"Position: 070. Distance: 15 nautical miles. Suspicious targets spotted on water."

The naval formation, which includes Dalian, Changsha, Liuzhou, Yueyang and other main battleships, quickly maneuvered to the target area, and Liuzhou took the lead in detecting the target on water. A sea assault exercise was started.

"In a formation attack on the sea, it is critical to grab the best shooting opportunity and coordinate in the attack. The precision strikes are based on our regular in-depth research on the control of weapons and equipment and formation training and tactics," said Liu Yang, director of combat of the Dalian destroyer.

Just after water surface threats were eliminated, air and underwater enemy targets appeared one after another. Multiple air targets quickly entered the airspace of the formation. Chinese military vessels quickly implemented tactical evasion, occupied favorable positions, released smoke screens, and use artillery to strike the incoming targets.

The shipboard helicopter of the Yueyang ship was immediately sent to detect and search the targets, and transmitted their information back to the flagship.

"We organized formation coordination trainings for ships of several types, including the Dalian destroyer, to scientifically grasp the characteristics and rules of building new-type combat capability, optimize combat formations, and explore innovation on formation coordination, intelligence support, weapon platform coordination and other tactical training methods, so as to promote the continuous improvement of the actual combat capability of new equipment and accelerate our integration into the joint combat system," said Wei Xuan, staff officer of the naval detachment.
