A Pakistani expert has condemned the U.S. decision to provide Ukraine with cluster munitions as a criminal offence which poses immediate threats to innocent civilians.
Mustafa Hyder Sayed, executive director at the Islamabad-based think-tank Pakistan-China Institute made the remarks after the United States announced on Friday the decision to transfer to Ukraine cluster munitions, which are banned by an international convention ratified by 123 countries.
"I think that this is not a conversation between Russia and Ukraine war or of a conflict between two countries. But when you talk about supplying cluster bombs to any country or entity, you're talking about a larger issue by an issue of human rights, issue of lives of children and women and innocent civilians," Sayed said.
He added that cluster munitions are also classified as prohibited by U.S. law.

So it is a contravention of not only U.S. law, but international law to give cluster bombs to any country, because there is evidence, abundant evidence to support that cluster bombs have posed a significant threat to civilians," said the expert.
Sayed said that the United States is committing war crimes by providing Ukraine with cluster munitions to help the country in its military conflict with Russia.
