Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday sent a congratulatory letter to the first high-level conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development.
In his letter, Xi said that with the rapid global changes unseen in a century, and sluggish global economic recovery, the global development agenda faces challenges.
In order to forge cooperation consensus and pursue common development, he proposed the Global Development Initiative (GDI), which is designed to speed up the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Xi said.
He was glad to see that with the participation of all parties concerned, cooperation under the initiative has achieved some significant early harvests, and has benefited many developing countries, Xi noted.
He stressed that development is a timeless theme for humanity, and shared development is an important pathway to making the world a better place.
As the largest developing country, China will always put its own development in the bigger context of human development, and create more opportunities for global development through its own development, Xi said.
China will allocate more resources for global development cooperation, and work together with the international community to continuously advance the GDI with solid progress, so as to make new contributions to realizing all the goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as scheduled, and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, Xi said.
Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee read out President Xi's letter at the opening ceremony of the conference in Beijing. High-ranking officials from 27 countries, diplomats stationed in China and representatives from over 20 United Nations agencies and other international and nongovernmental organizations attended the event.
The first high-level conference of the Forum on Global Action for Shared Development opened in Beijing on Monday in a bid to transform the Global Development Initiative from being a Chinese proposal to an international consensus, and from a unilateral initiative to multilateral actions.
