Chinese Premier Li Qiang held talks with Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands Manasseh Sogavare in Beijing on Monday, expressing China's readiness to act with Solomon Islands for upgraded bilateral relations.
Li said that since China and the Solomon Islands established diplomatic ties four years ago, the bilateral relations have seen rapid development and yielded fruitful results, and the two countries have become each other's trustworthy good friends and reliable good brothers.
He added that it fully shows that the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Solomon Islands is a correct choice that conforms to the trend of the times.
The two countries decide to establish comprehensive strategic partnership featuring mutual respect, common development for a new era.
Standing at a new historical starting point, China stands ready to work with the Solomon Islands to deepen political mutual trust, continue to firmly support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns, expand dialog and exchanges in various fields and at all levels, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation and promote the upgrade of bilateral relations, Li said.
Li pointed out that China is willing to work with the Solomon Islands to further synergize their development strategies, expand cooperation in trade, investment and infrastructure construction, and strengthen exchanges in culture, education, health and sub-national affairs.
China will continue to support the Solomon Islands in improving people's livelihood and maintaining social stability and support it in hosting the Pacific Games, Li said.
Li also expressed China's readiness to work with the Solomon Islands to uphold genuine multilateralism, strengthen coordination and cooperation under mechanisms like the United Nations and the Pacific Islands Forum, address climate change, safeguard the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone, and maintain stability, development and prosperity in the region.
In response, Sogavare said that the Solomon Islands attaches great importance to its relations with China, adding that the bilateral relations have made great progress since the two countries established diplomatic ties.
He said the Solomon Islands supports China's Belt and Road Initiative, Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative, and opposes geopolitical manipulation against China.
The Solomon Islands highly appreciates China's important role in maintaining regional and world peace, promoting sustainable development and responding to global challenges, he said.
The prime minister said the Solomon Islands abides by the one-China principle and stands ready to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China in such areas as trade and economy, culture and response to climate change.
Prior to their talks, Li held a welcome ceremony for Sogavare at the Great Hall of the People.
Li and Sogavare also witnessed the signing of documents on bilateral cooperation and trade after the talks.
On Monday afternoon, Sogavare laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes.
At the invitation of Li, Sogavare is on an official visit to China, which is slated for July 9 to 15.
