3. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Xi Jinping, Chinese President (partially overlaid with shots 4-9):
"Back in October, 2019, 18 days after the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Solomon Islands, I met Mr. Prime Minister for the first time in Beijing. I said at that time that the friendship is regarded in no particular order; as long as we usher it in, there will be a bright future. I also remember that you told me that the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries was a momentous decision and that the Solomon Islands chose to stand on the right side of history. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the friendly cooperation between China and the Solomon Islands has come from behind and taken the lead in China's relations with Pacific island countries. Facts have proven that the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the Solomon Islands conforms to the trend of the times, the international trend and the fundamental interests of the two peoples. It's the right choice."

Mr. President, you're taking the lead, and the Solomon Islands and the small Pacific Island countries admire the stance that you have taken. This speaks of the visionary leadership you continue to take on all the issues that are happening in the world today."
