"Audience on site were screaming and cheering for the Syrian athletes. The scene was soon trending on Chinese social media, where many netizens left a lot of comments. I've seen many, and I was so touched by them. I want to share some of them with you. One said they 'keep their heads up and look up at the stars even in the ruins,' another remarked 'they showed the world that beyond the devastation, there is also infinite vitality', and there are also many comments, such as 'please let the roses bloom in Damascus,' and 'may peace and love remain in this land deep in the desert where people are unbent.' Your Excellency, we were wondering, what would you like to say to the Chinese audience and netizens after listening to these comments and experiencing the moment at the stadium with your wife?"

"It was a very impressive and moving scene. The Chinese audience on site cheered for the Syrian delegation when they entered the stadium. It was completely spontaneous. That's the Chinese audiences. Sometimes we might think that our bond may be not as close because of the physical distance, but this fully proves that the people of China and the people of Syria are close to one another. I would like to thank Chinese netizens for their concern. I found their remarks to be quite moving. They are well informed of the history of the relationship between China and Syria, and they also keep up with current events in Syria. They've expressed their love for Syria. What I want to say about the Asian Games opening ceremony is that we felt the same way about China — that it is great and modest — through both the ceremony and the words posted on Chinese social media."
