"The world is becoming multipolar and all countries are seeking reliable partners for themselves. A case in point in the expansion of the BRICS, as the five-member group is ready to include six more countries. In addition, about two dozen countries have expressed their intention to cooperate with BRICS members which are viewed as trustworthy partners. The mechanism has a good reputation and every country seeking for membership is feeling increasingly confident. This is an ongoing trend."

Western hegemony is in an irreversible decline as a multipolar world takes shape for all countries to have an equal say, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday .
Speaking on the sidelines of the 20th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club underway in the Russian city of Sochi, Lavrov said the expansion of the BRICS group is testament to the trend of multipolarity the world is heading.
The BRICS group of five major emerging economies -- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- held its 15th heads of state and government summit in Johannesburg in August.
During the summit, BRICS leaders agreed to invite six countries, namely Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to join the group and their membership will take effect on Jan. 1, 2024.
"The world is becoming multipolar and all countries are seeking reliable partners for themselves. In addition, about two dozen countries have expressed their intention to cooperate with BRICS members which are viewed as trustworthy partners. The mechanism has a good reputation and every country seeking for membership is feeling increasingly confident. This is an ongoing trend," Lavrov told reporters.
The Russian FM further said that the reform of the United Nations was on the agenda of the annual meeting, with the focus on the reality of today's world where there is no place for the hegemony of certain powers.
"We also mentioned the reform of the United Nations, which must reflect a multipolar world. No matter how unscrupulous the West is, it will have difficulty defending its hegemony," he said.
Under the theme of "Fair Multipolarity: How to Ensure Security and Development for Everyone", the 20th Annual Meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club opened on Monday and will run through Thursday.
According to its organizer, the event has brought together 140 experts, politicians and diplomats from 42 countries throughout Eurasia, Africa, North and South America.
