China saw an average of 1.477 million daily inbound and outbound passenger trips during the eight-day Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day combined holiday, roughly tripling last year's figure, according to the National Immigration Administration on Saturday.
Border inspection agencies across the country handled more than 11.8 million exit-entry passengers during the period, including 5.8 million entries and 5.9 million exits.
More than 495,000 vehicles and carriers helped transport the cross-border travelers, up 140 percent from the same period last year.
More than 500,000 passengers traversed China's Zhuhai Port at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge during the holiday, statistics showed. Over 90,000 vehicles ran through the port, making it the busiest across the country.
Monday witnessed a historic peak with more than 14,300 vehicles running through the port.
The Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday period, which lasted from Sept. 29 to Oct. 6 this year, is a peak travel and tourism season in China.
