Storyline

The 4th China International Consumer Products Expo has witnessed a surge in global interest, with delegations from a wider range of countries compared to previous editions.

The expo, also known as the Hainan Expo, kicked off Saturday in Haikou, the capital of south China's island province of Hainan, drawing over 4,000 brands from 71 countries and regions.

The United Kingdom has set up a national pavilion for the first time at the consumer expo, bringing 14 representative brands. Sohail Shaikh, deputy HM trade commissioner for China of the UK Department for Business and Trade, said the British brands are very optimistic about the development potential of the Chinese market.

The official said he made the decision as early as last March to bring exhibitors to the expo this year.

"I am bringing a big delegation of companies with us. So we definitely want to find more cooperation with Chinese companies. Some of these brands are new to the Chinese market, and some of them want to go further in the market. We also want to interact with the consumers at the show, to understand more about consumer trends and what they think of our products," said Shaikh.

Also making their national debuts at the expo, Malaysia and Mongolia have been showcasing flagship products from their countries.

Booths showcasing Malaysian slippers, biscuits, and even edible bird's nests drew large crowds. The Mongolian pavilion exceeded expectations, securing two orders within just two days and experiencing a significant boost in cashmere sales, doubling their initial figures.

"The Consumer Products Expo holds great significance for our products and brands. The Chinese market is highly favorable. China has great technology, resources and funding. By promoting the resources of our two countries, the industry and trade between both countries will benefit," said Tumenbayar Tsogtbaatar, commercial counselor of the Mongolian Embassy to China.
