A total of 33,899 Palestinians had been killed from relentless Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October 7 last year, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Wednesday.
Among the victims, over 10,000 were women and an estimated 6,000 of them were mothers, with their deaths leaving around 19,000 children orphaned, according to a report published by United Nations (UN) Women on Tuesday.
Another 76,664 Palestinians had been wounded in months-long Israeli airstrikes and ground assaults, according to the ministry.
In the last 24 hours alone, Israel's military campaign killed 56 people and wounded 89 others in the war-torn enclave, it said.
The past week has seen displaced Palestinians attempting to return to their homes in northern Gaza in droves, with many walking with their belongings and some riding donkey carts and bicycles.
Israel has been launching a large-scale offensive in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, during which about 1,200 people were killed and more than 200 were taken hostage.
For more than six months, each day has kept bringing more Palestinians deaths as Israeli strikes topple buildings with families inside.
A staggering 1.7 million Palestinians in Gaza, or more than 70 percent of the population, had been internally displaced, UNHCR spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said during a press conference at the United Nations Office in Geneva on Tuesday.
Israel's siege, bombardment and ground offensive have also created a catastrophic humanitarian crisis including what the United Nations calls a man-made crisis of near starvation.
