Storyline

Russia and Ukraine continued to exchange fire on Saturday. Russia claimed to have launched multiple attacks on Ukrainian military and energy infrastructure, arms depots and shooting down its warplanes, while Ukraine reported attacking Russian energy infrastructure, air defense systems and munitions depots.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Saturday that the Russian army occupied more favorable positions in Donetsk and Dnepropetrovsk in eastern Ukraine, Kherson in southern Ukraine and in other directions, repelled multiple offensives of the Ukrainian army, and hit a Ukrainian aviation fuel depot, military transport facilities, arms depots and other targets.

Russian air defense forces shot down a Ukrainian SU-25 fighter jet and intercepted multiple rockets, aerial bombs and drones, it said.

The Russian Defense Ministry also reported on the same day that the Russian air defense systems shot down three Ukrainian drones in Belgorod Oblast, which is about 40 kilometers north of the border with Ukraine.

Ukraine's online newspaper Ukrainska Pravda reported on Saturday that earlier in the day, the Ukrainian side used dozens of drones to launch air strikes in eight Russian oblasts, including Belgorod and Bryansk.

According to the report, the target of the attack is still Russia's energy infrastructure, and at least three substations and an energy storage facility were on fire after the attack.

On the same day, the General Staff of the Ukrainian armed forces issued a report claiming that the Ukrainian army launched dozens of battles with the Russian army on the front line on Saturday, hitting its munition depots, air defense systems and other targets.

In a related development, Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Friday that Western countries are only one step away from sending troops to Ukraine, which is likely to drag Europe into the conflict.

He warned that the European Union (EU) is playing with fire.

Orban also said that Europe has been involved in the conflict and spent a lot of money on Ukraine issue. Some state leaders have even referred to the conflict as their war.
