Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, inspected a local community in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality on Monday to gain insights into local authorities' work on urban renewal and improving people’s wellbeing.
The community, known as the Minzhucun Community, was built from the 1950s to the 1990s to accommodate the workers of a state-owned machine-tool plant and their families. It currently consists of 55 buildings.
In early 2022, local authorities launched an urban renewal project for the Community, renovating 110,000 square meters of buildings, demolishing 43,000 square meters of dilapidated buildings and upgrading 90,000 square meters of public facilities.
With a population of 8,054, the Minzhucun Community always prioritizes the demands of special needs groups such as seniors and children, providing tailored services to them through grid-based management.
Following the principle of trying to solve problems with their own resources, the community's committee has leveraged smart technologies to improve its management, using a one-stop online service platform to solve the daily problems of local residents within the community.
