"The mission this time is the third manned mission at the application and development phase of the space station, and also, the 32nd mission of the manned space program. The main objectives are set for the mission: completing in-orbit crew handover with Shenzhou-17 crew, staying about six-month on space station, conducting experiments and tests of space science and application, performing extravehicular activities and cargo in-and-out tests, installing space debris protection equipment on the space station, deploying and taking back extravehicular payloads and equipment, conducting science popularization education and public welfare activities, and carrying out payload experiment of the space station. The operating efficiency of the space station will be further improved with continued comprehensive application benefits to be exerted."

The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) on Wednesday disclosed the main tasks of the Shenzhou-18 manned spaceflight mission.
The spaceship is slated to lift off at 20:59 Thursday (Beijing Time) from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China, the CMSA said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Lin Xiqiang, deputy director of the CMSA, briefed the media on the major tasks of the Shenzhou-18 mission.
"The mission this time is the third manned mission at the application and development phase of the space station, and also, the 32nd mission of the manned space program. The main objectives are set for the mission: completing in-orbit crew handover with Shenzhou-17 crew, staying about six-month on space station, conducting experiments and tests of space science and application, performing extravehicular activities and cargo in-and-out tests, installing space debris protection equipment on the space station, deploying and taking back extravehicular payloads and equipment, conducting science popularization education and public welfare activities, and carrying out payload experiment of the space station. The operating efficiency of the space station will be further improved with continued comprehensive application benefits to be exerted," he said.
The three astronauts, Ye Guangfu, Li Cong, and Li Guangsu, will take over from the in-orbit Shenzhou-17 crew, and will spend about six months on the space station.
The Shenzhou-18 spaceship, sitting atop a Long March-2F carrier rocket, was transferred to the launching area on April 17, with pre-launch function checks and joint tests conducted to ensure the spaceship's readiness.
