Storyline

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has called for efforts in broadening channels to increase local farmers' income and consolidating the achievements of poverty alleviation in a solid and effective manner during a research trip in southwest China's Guizhou Province on Wednesday.

Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited a residential compound in Kaili City, where he met with relocated residents in their new homes and spoke with workers at a local workshop to learn about their working and living conditions.

He stressed the need for consistent efforts to consolidate the gains made in poverty alleviation and the importance of forestalling any large-scale relapse into poverty, calling for the creation of local job opportunities and strengthened services to help people find jobs in other areas.

Premier Li learned about the blueberry industry in Majiang County and its role in boosting the integration of agriculture and tourism.

Continuing his tour to the Taijiang County, Li watched video footage of a match from the "Village BA", a hugely popular grassroots basketball tournament, and received updates on the progress of rural sports and cultural tourism industries in the region.

He highlighted the significance of leveraging regional advantages to foster the development of leisure tourism, mass sports, and folk cultural experiences, aiming to spur new business formats in rural areas.

At a vocational school in Taijiang County, Li inspected tea art and bartending training classrooms, as well as the intangible cultural heritage center there to gain insights into school-enterprise cooperation and the overall outcomes of student employment.

Underscoring the necessity of vigorously promoting the development of vocational education, the premier said efforts should be made to align education with market demands, and nurture more skilled talents.
