Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to Serbia will provide fresh opportunities to strengthen bilateral ties, said Milos Vucevic, Serbia's newly nominated prime minister.

Xi will pay a state visit to France, Serbia and Hungary from May 5 to 10, at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron of France, President Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia, and President Tamas Sulyok and Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying announced on Monday.

In an exclusive interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), Vucevic expressed his anticipation for the visit.

"You know when you have an opportunity to host such a great world leader, and great and well proved friend of our nation, it's something [in which] what has to spread the joy and happiness among the Serbian nation. Because this visit of President Xi is new opportunity or opportunity to upgrade our comprehensive relations, bilateral relations. So, we are delighted that Belgrade and Serbia is next address in the European tour of President Xi. So, we are expecting him, and I hope that we would be worthy of this visit and this opportunity," said Vucevic.

Vucevic stressed the enduring friendship between China and Serbia, describing it as an unbreakable bond.

"I believe that both sides have proved that we are long-standing partners, and that we have really, in different occasions, in different periods, proved that. I don't see any obstacles on that path. I believe, maybe it is not so formal to describe to that definition, but I believe that our relations are something what [in which] we as friends [are friends], or that iron-steel [friends], or iron friends, we are iron [iron-clad] friends. It means that we are not just related through some formal agreements and on some formal occasions. We strongly believe that China and Serbia share the same values and believe in the same order in the world. That is something what [which] is fundamentally important for developed relations, bilateral relations between our countries," said Vucevic.

Vucevic further emphasized China's significance on the world stage.

"So, we are iron friends, and we will preserve that, we will keep that friendship. Serbia doesn't have some simple economic or political interest. We believe that China is a key player in the world scene, who should give guarantees that the world is going in the right direction, and not towards some blind street," said Vucevic.
