Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday met with Sir Sherard Cowper-Coles, chair of the China-Britain Business Council, and his delegation in Beijing.
Li praised the council for its historic contribution to "breaking the ice" in China-Britain trade ties, noting that maintaining sound relations between China and Britain benefits both the two countries and the world.
China is ready to strengthen dialogue with Britain, enhance cooperation, and respect each other's core interests and major concerns, ensuring that mutual benefit and win-win cooperation remain the underlying trend
of bilateral relations, thereby pushing for sustained, steady and long-term development of bilateral relations along the right track, Li said.
China is committed to its fundamental national policy of opening to the outside world, the premier said, stressing that companies from Britain and other countries are welcome to expand their investment in China.
It is hoped that the council and the British business community will carry forward the "ice-breaking spirit", serving as an ambassador of China-Britain friendship, an advocate of mutually beneficial cooperation, and a defender of stable industrial and supply chains, Li said.
For his part, Sherard Cowper-Coles said that the council supports China's advancement of reform and opening-up and its pursuit of high-quality development. He stressed that the council stands ready to play its role in enhancing bilateral cooperation.
