Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the robust economic partnership and great cooperation prospects between China and Russia in a written interview with China's Xinhua News Agency.
On the eve of his two-day state visit to China, which starts on Thursday, Putin told Xinhua that Russia and China are promoting the prosperity of both nations through expanded equal and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, especially in trade, energy cooperation and agricultural exchanges.
Putin said that over the past five years, the Russia-China turnover has doubled, reaching 227.8 billion U.S. dollars last year, compared with 111.0 billion U.S. dollars in 2019, and among them, more than 90 percent of settlements between the two countries' companies are made in national currencies.
He added that China has been Russia's largest trading partner for 13 consecutive years while Russia ranked the fourth among China's trading partners in 2023.
Putin noted the two sides are systematically and consistently developing strategic cooperation in the energy sector, working on new large-scale energy projects.
Putin also touched upon cooperation in agriculture and transportation, adding that supplies of Russian agricultural produce to the Chinese market are showing positive dynamics, initiatives in investment and production are being implemented, and transportation and logistics corridors between the two countries are operating smoothly and growing.
Looking forward, Putin said the two sides will try to forge closer cooperation in high-tech, outer space, artificial intelligence, renewable energy among other innovative sectors.
