Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) manufacturers in China's Shenzhen have seen a notable surge in order volumes during the first four months of 2024, with export revenue from drones rising by over 40 percent compared to the same period last year.

Shenzhen, a leading global technology hub in south China's Guangdong Province, is ramping up efforts to advance its UAV industry amidst the swift growth of the low-altitude economy in the country.

Chen Xiao, vice president of operation at a tech company based in Shenzhen, said that the household drones produced by his company are now priced at about 400 U.S. dollars in the European and American markets. This year, the company has expanded its production capacity as orders have continued to grow.

"Both domestically and internationally, our orders have skyrocketed by over 300 percent in six months. Every month, we send at least 5 to 8 batch of goods to different countries. Our production lines are running at full capacity, and we're planning to expand our production lines," said Chen.

Additionally, there has been a surge in customer demand for agricultural drones recently.

"Last year, a single set of our (agricultural) drones cost over 65,000 yuan (8,974 U.S. dollars). This year, the price has dropped to just over 45,000 yuan (6,213 U.S. dollars). That's a reduction of nearly 20,000 yuan (2,761 U.S. dollars)," said Chen Yong, vice president of a Guangzhou-based tech firm.

Chinese agricultural drones are consistently advancing in terms of payload capabilities and intelligence, leading to an increase in their sales abroad, industry insiders said.

According to the official data from the Shenzhen Customs, drone exports from the city amounted to 4.15 billion yuan (572,990,735 U.S. dollars) from January to April this year, marking a year-on-year increase of roughly 42.1 percent. The primary export markets included the European Union and ASEAN.
