Storyline

China Media Group (CMG) presented a special festive program to celebrate China's traditional Dragon Boat Festival on multiple platforms, in an audiovisual production that combined colorful performances with beautiful natural scenery.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, which falls on Monday this year, and honors noted patriotic poet Qu Yuan (340-278 BC).

The special program for the festival broadcast was filmed in Yichang City, Qu Yuan's hometown. The program used modern technology to blend the beauty of local landscapes with artistic performances, presenting a show steeped in Yichang culture.

With four themes: "my hometown", "my love", "my dream" and "my country" being highlighted, the CMG program showcased traditional Chinese culture through poetry, operas, dancing, folk music, and martial arts.

Poetry and folk music were central to the production, which was filmed on the waterfront of the Yangtze River, skillfully integrating the magnificent scenery with melodic poetry to provide an immersive audio-visual experience for the audience.

Some well-known Chinese actors, including Tang Guoqiang and Wang Luoyong, read poems that harmoniously interpret a heartfelt dialog between the ancient and modern worlds.

Opera, singing and street dance were also presented during the special broadcast to highlight the inheritance of traditional Chinese culture.

The short film "Hui Jia Guo Jie" (literally "Going Home for the Dragon Boat Festival") tells the touching story about the descendants of Qu Yuan in Wanguji Village of Yichang City and Baojianli in Changhua City of Taiwan region, who have been tracing the footsteps of their ancestors to celebrate the festival for seven consecutive years, manifesting the heartfelt wishes of the compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait who are looking forward to the reunion.

In last year's special festival program, a French choral work, "Si j'allais en Chine”, which was jointly performed by a French and a Chinese children’s choir via video link, was a big hit with the audience

Since 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, French youngsters were invited to enjoy the festival in China, where they visited famous historical sites and experienced the Dragon Boat Festival customs.

During the program, Chinese and French children sang "Ge Sheng Yu Wei Xiao" (literally "Song and Smile”) together, conveying a deep friendship across borders and over a long period of time.

The special program was aired on different platforms including CCTV-1 Channel, CCTV-3 Channel, CCTV-15 Channel, yangshipin.cn, cnr.cn, cctv.com on Monday evening.
