Storyline

U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip be "permanently" resettled in Jordan, Egypt and other Arab countries after his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday.

Netanyahu is the first foreign leader to meet with Trump since the latter took office in his second term last month.

With the focus on ceasefire in Gaza, they discussed the negotiation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, the release of detainees, the resettlement of Palestinians, the reconstruction of Gaza, new arms shipments, and the normalization of relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Trump said after the meeting that he proposed the permanent resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza, calling on Jordan, Egypt and other Arab countries to take in these displaced people so that the war-torn territory can rebuild.

Trump also said he may be reconsidering his previous plan to establish a Palestinian state.

When it comes to Hamas, the U.S. president said he wants peace.

Trump said of Netanyahu that Israel has the "right leader".

Netanyahu said Trump had brokered a deal to free the detainees. He also stated he would not give up on detainees or war goals and that opportunities would increase when working with Trump.
