The main drills of the joint naval exercise "Security Belt-2025" involving China, Iran, and Russia concluded on Tuesday afternoon, with participating vessels berthing at Iran's Chabahar Port.
The maritime phase of the exercise, which took place from Monday to Tuesday in waters near Chabahar, focused on key drills including striking maritime targets, boarding and inspection, damage control, and joint search and rescue operations.
On Monday morning, naval vessels from the three countries sailed sequentially to the designated exercise area. A nighttime firing drill was conducted later on Monday, with China taking on the role of subject commander. Ships from all three nations formed a firing formation and engaged in sequential shooting exercises. Additionally, the vessels participated in drills to simulate heavy machine gun firing at sea as well as signaling communication.
On Tuesday, the vessels were reorganized into two task groups to respond to a simulated scenario involving two hijacked merchant ships. China, acting as the subject commander for the second group, coordinated with Iranian forces to deploy small boats from China's guided-missile destroyer Baotou (Hull 133). These boats approached the simulated hijacked ships stealthily from the stern. Special forces from China and Iran boarded the vessels, swiftly neutralized the simulated pirates on deck, seized control of the bridge, and successfully rescued the simulated hostages.
