"This attack was totally unexpected for us. We had no idea whether it was a conflict or a temporary ceasefire. We were lucky enough to survive and had accepted the fact that our loved ones had been killed and were looking forward to the end of the conflict. But we didn't expect that the bomb would fall on us again. Until now, I still can't believe it."

"The airstrike came suddenly. We thought our home was hit, but it turned out that the target was the school next door. We heard screams and experienced extreme panic and fear. Smoke and rubble rushed into our home. The children cried in fear. My mother was injured in the shoulder and my wife was injured in the head. For a whole night, we couldn't believe that we would be alive to see the dawn. All this shows that the Israeli army did not leave any room for civilian lives."

Storyline

Surprise airstrikes across the Gaza Strip began early Tuesday inflicted further hardship on locals amid an ongoing struggle. As Israel vowed to intensify attacks if Hamas did not release the hostages still held in the enclave, many Gazans were still in panic, grappling with uncertainty about what might come next.

The attacks, killing more than 400 people, came amid indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas regarding the next steps of a truce, which could include ending the war and releasing the remaining Israeli hostages. The strikes broke nearly two months of ceasefire and raised fears of fully reigniting the 17-month war.

The Gaza-based health authorities said the death toll from the attack has risen to 413, with more than 660 people injured.

According to the Hamas-run Gaza government media office, the Israeli strikes targeted densely populated residential areas across the south, north, and center of the Strip, as well as camps for displaced people.

Local witnesses, who had survived previous fierce fighting and who had even accepted the loss of their loved ones, now have to deal with the fear and twists and turns of renewed hostilities.

Until now, I still can't believe it," said resident Omar Krikal.

"There are more than 50 people killed here, and some bodies have not been found yet. We have been able to rescue only a few. My uncle and his daughters, my sister and her children, and my brother are all buried under the rubble," said resident Mohammed Krikal.

All this shows that the Israeli army did not leave any room for civilian lives," said resident Zamria Wadi.

Although Israeli media quoted Israeli officials as saying that the targets of the Israeli attack were the Hamas leadership and mid-level commanders as well as its infrastructures, a large number of civilians were also killed and injured in the Israeli air strikes. Many once again were forced to flee their homes by threats and orders from the Israeli army.

The Palestinian government called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to stop its "war of genocide" against the people of Gaza as soon as possible.

Hamas also issued a statement accusing Israel of being fully responsible for the breakdown of the ceasefire agreement and said that Hamas is still in communication with the relevant mediators.
