Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi on Monday.
Xi said that China is pleased to see Vietnam, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese government, enjoy political and social stability, highlighting the country's impressive reform achievements and growing international stature.
Xi called for enhanced strategic coordination and a stronger political foundation for building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future.
Emphasizing the importance of increasing high-level exchanges, Xi stressed the need for both countries to jointly oppose hegemonism, unilateralism and protectionism.
He also called for the implementation of the China-proposed Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative, while safeguarding international fairness and justice, and promoting peace, stability, development and prosperity in Asia and beyond.
Xi urged both sides to promote high-quality development to provide solid strategic support for their respective modernization processes.
China and Vietnam should optimize their geographical advantages of land and sea connectivity, strengthen the alignment of their development strategies and tap their joint potential for industrial cooperation, Xi said.
Efforts should be made to steadily advance cooperation in infrastructure construction, improve connectivity and ensure a smooth flow of trade, according to Xi.
Xi also highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation in emerging areas such as 5G, artificial intelligence, clean energy and the digital economy.
He underscored the need to firmly uphold the multilateral trading system and promote an economic globalization that is more open, inclusive, balanced and beneficial for all.
Urging deeper people-to-people exchanges, Xi stressed the importance of hosting activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Vietnam, along with the China-Vietnam Year of People-to-People Exchanges.
For his part, the Vietnamese Prime Minister said his country places great importance on its relationship with China and is committed to firmly pushing forward the building of a Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.
He expressed Vietnam's desire to strengthen cooperation with China in such areas as economy, trade and investment, connectivity, science and technology and finance, with the aim of boosting economic vitality, driving growth, and jointly addressing shared risks and challenges.
Vietnam looks forward to deepening cooperation with China in international and regional affairs, maintaining strategic focus amid the complex and volatile global landscape, and jointly safeguarding multilateralism and the international order.
Xi arrived in Hanoi earlier in the day for a two-day state visit, at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam and Vietnamese President Luong Cuong.
