Storyline

Travelers from across China are flocking to Qingshen County, Sichuan Province to enjoy the breathtaking spectacle created by fireflies.

The county, known as one of the largest firefly-viewing spots in southwest China, enters its peak firefly-watching season from mid-March to the end of April each year.

At Zhongyan Temple, a popular firefly viewing spot in the county, passionate crowds have already gathered before nightfall. When darkness falls, thousands of fireflies dance among the bamboo branches and vines, enchanting visitors as they flicker like scattered tiny stars.

"I'm from Chongqing. I saw the dreamlike scene, and beautiful fireflies with my own eyes, like something out of a fairytale. The whole experience was truly amazing," said visitor Shen Ying.

"I think the fireflies are like shining stars in the sky. They are incredibly beautiful," said another visitor.

Fireflies are considered to be a good biological indicator of an unpolluted and healthy environment, as they usually thrive in areas with clean water sources and plenty of vegetation.

By expanding bamboo forest coverage, Qingshen County has seen a steady increase in both the species and number of fireflies.

Moreover, the fireflies help boost Qingshen's local economic growth. A variety of activities, including bamboo weaving workshops and themed bazaars have been organized during this year's peak firefly-watching season to attract tourists.

The county has recently welcomed over 100,000 visitors, generating more than 30 million yuan (approximately 4 million U.S. dollars) in economic revenue.
