Chinese President Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for visiting Kenyan President William Ruto in Beijing on Thursday morning.
Ruto is on a state visit to China from Tuesday to Saturday at the invitation of Xi.
At the ceremony, a military band performed the national anthems of China and Kenya, and a 21-gun salute was fired.
Ruto, accompanied by Xi, reviewed the Guard of Honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. The two presidents also watched a march-past of the Guard of Honor.
Xi's wife Peng Liyuan, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, and other Chinese officials also attended the ceremony.
President Ruto's entourage includes his wife, Kenya's prime cabinet secretary and cabinet secretary for foreign and diaspora affairs, the country's cabinet secretary at the Ministry of Roads and Transport, among others.
