China and Kenya decided on Thursday to elevate their ties to a China-Kenya community with a shared future for the new era.

The decision was made during talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and visiting Kenyan President William Ruto in Beijing.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 62 years ago, China and Kenya have always respected and supported each other, carried forward the spirit of China-Africa friendship and cooperation and the Silk Road spirit, and promoted the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries to continuously reach new heights, Xi said.

Noting that elevating bilateral relations to a China-Kenya community with a shared future for the new era is a strategic choice for both sides, Xi said that China is willing to work with Kenya to follow the trend of history and the general trend of the times, create an inspiring example in the all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era, and lead the development of China-Africa relations and unity and cooperation within the Global South.

Xi stressed that building a community with a shared future is the right path of mutual respect, equality, and win-win results.

He called on the two countries to continue supporting each other in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests, in exploring development paths suited to their national conditions, and in deepening exchanges of experience in governance and administration, so as to remain fellow companions and true friends in the journey toward modernization.

Noting that Belt and Road cooperation is a bright calling card of cooperation between the two countries, Xi called for bilateral efforts to enhance regular policy communication, promote high-standard connectivity, facilitate smooth sustainable trade, explore diversified financial integration, renew the friendship and people-to-people bonds for generations, and ensure continued leadership in high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

China's enormous market has always kept its door open to quality products from Kenya, and China encourages more capable Chinese enterprises to invest and start business in Kenya, Xi said.

As important members of the Global South, both countries should take concrete actions to firmly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core, promote global governance featuring extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, practice true multilateralism, promote the building of an equal and orderly multi-polar world and an inclusive economic globalization that benefits all, and drive the world towards a bright future of peace, security, prosperity and progress, Xi said.

No matter how the international landscape evolves, China's principle of sincerity, affinity, good faith and real results towards Africa will remain unchanged, along with the original aspiration of China and Africa sharing weal and woe and helping each other, and the fundamental purpose of China-Africa cooperation for win-win results and shared development, Xi said.

Stressing that there are no winners in tariff wars or trade wars, Xi said that China will not flinch when trouble comes its way. He expressed China's willingness to work with other countries around the world to address challenges through unity and cooperation, safeguard legitimate rights and interests, uphold international trade rules, and maintain international fairness and justice.

For his part, Ruto said that Kenya and China have always treated each other with sincerity, achieving mutual benefit and win-win results.

He described the two countries as all-weather strategic cooperative partners, united by a shared vision for cooperation that always centers on the people.

Ruto reiterated Kenya's firm commitment to the one-China principle, affirming that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory.

He expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people for their selfless assistance in improving Kenya's infrastructure and response to natural disasters.

The Mombasa-Nairobi Railway and other Belt and Road Initiative projects have significantly contributed to Kenya's national development, and Kenya is glad to join hands with China to build a community with a shared future, fully align with economic and social development strategies, strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure building, science and technology, among others, enhance exchanges in education, culture and tourism, advance their respective modernization processes, and bring the future of the two countries more closely together, according to Ruto.

Noting that cooperation between China and Africa is conducive to Africa's peaceful development, the Kenyan president said that Kenya is willing to closely coordinate and cooperate with China to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

He criticized the trade war for undermining the existing international rules and order, and commended China for playing a stabilizing role in the current volatile situation and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of countries in the Global South.

He expressed Kenya's delight to jointly uphold multilateralism with China.

After the talks, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of 20 cooperation documents covering Belt and Road cooperation, high-tech, people-to-people exchange, economy and trade, and news media.

The two sides also issued a joint statement on creating an inspiring example in the all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.

At noon, Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan hosted a welcome banquet for Ruto and his wife at the Great Hall of the People.

Ruto is on a state visit to China from Tuesday to Saturday at the invitation of Xi.
