China's second homegrown large cruise ship, Adora Flora City, is edging closer to completion after successfully undergoing a dock floating test on Monday, according to China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC).
The floating test was carried out at the shipyard of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., the cruise ship's manufacturer. It included a series of inspections to evaluate critical technologies and technical specifications.
"The entire floating process of the cruise ship proceeded smoothly, with all indicators falling within our expected range. The structural assembly, including the installation of pipelines and cables, is nearly complete. We will move to the next phase, which involves system commissioning and interior decoration," said Chen Gang, chief designer of the homegrown cruise ship.
According to the project schedule, the cruise ship is expected to undergo sea trial in May 2026 and be delivered by the end of the same year. Before its delivery, it will undergo approximately 108,000 inspections.
"Our task is to ensure that the ship is constructed in accordance with the design, and that the construction progress is in line with the owner's requirements," said Niu Zhichun, deputy general manager of the supervision team for the cruise ship.
The deadweight tonnage of Adora Flora City is 141,900 tons, 6,400 tons more than that of Adora Magic City. Its total length has increased by 17.4 meters, reaching 341 meters, and the number of cabins has risen by 19 to a total of 2,144.
The ship can accommodate 5,232 passengers when fully loaded and features a 16-story upper structure, equipped with more entertainment facilities.
