Storyline

A Chinese young man is living two distinctive livestyles each year, as a snowboard technician or a coffee festival organizer depending on the season.

For nearly five months a year, the man nicknamed Lao Feng fine-tunes snowboards and also enhances their performances.

This is a job of precision, patience, and instinct. Every decision -- from wax formula to edge angle -- depends on variables like the snow conditions, humidity, wind, and air temperature.

Feng has serviced boards for some of the country's top athletes.

"Two years ago, during the 14th National Winter Games, I was in charge of servicing boards for the snowboard cross athletes. It involved constant communication with the athletes. The riders gave me first-hand feedback on how the board felt while riding it," Feng said.

"When they're out in the field, I would watch them nervously at each turn. The moment they finished a run, I would go straight to them for feedback," he added.

When the snow melts, Feng swithes to an entirely different role -- the mastermind behind a coffee festival, a staple in Beijing's spring calendar.

Though he's never behind the counter pulling shots, Feng is behind everything else. The supplies, the logistics, and cleanliness -- all the quiet things that keep the caffeine buzz flowing.

"Running a coffee festival involves many trivial tasks. But when you see the end result, it's all worth it," Feng said.

"Actually, I kind of enjoy working behind the scenes. I just want to stay grounded and get things done. A bigger motivation might be helping others reach greater heights," he added.
