Foreign ministers of six European countries, namely Spain, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, and Slovenia, issued a joint statement on Wednesday opposing Israel's plan for a prolonged military presence in the Gaza Strip.
The joint statement expressed the six countries' "deep concern" over Israel's announcement to expand its military operations in the Gaza Strip and its plans to maintain a long-term military presence there. The move marks a "new and dangerous escalation" of the conflict and threatens the prospects for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the joint statement said.
The joint statement also expressed strong opposition to any plans that would lead to the displacement of the population in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that such actions would violate international law.
It also called for humanitarian assistance to be provided to all civilians in Gaza who are in need of help.
