Yemen was hit by another round of intensive Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday which targeted the capital Sanaa and the northern province of Amran, killing seven and injuring 97 others, according to the Houthi-run health authorities.
The attacks struck the Sana'a International Airport, inflicting heavy damage, as well as power plants and two other military sites, with footage showing black smoke and fireballs burning at many of the impacted sites.
Minutes before the strikes, an Israeli army spokesman issued a warning on social media, urging civilians in the area to evacuate immediately. The Israeli attacks came after Yemen's Houthi forces attacked Israel's Ben Gurion International Airport on Sunday, injuring two people and causing damage.
Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising on Tuesday after the heavy Israeli airstrikes on Sanaa's airport, which left several planes on fire and resulted in significant damage to the terminal buildings and other essential facilities.
The Dhahban and Hizziz power stations were also targeted, as well as transformers in the Bani Al-Harith district, which caused a major power outage in the capital city.
The Israeli attacks also hit the Amran Cement Factory, as part of a series of strikes that earlier targeted the port of Hodeidah in western Yemen and the Bajil Cement Factory.
Yemen's Houthi group has been targeting Israel since November 2023 to show solidarity with the Palestinians after the Israel-Hamas war broke out in Gaza one month earlier.
In the wake of Tuesday's strikes, defiant residents in Sanaa say the recurring Israeli attacks will not weaken their support for the people of Gaza.
"These are targets that are repeatedly attacked, and we are used to it. Our support for Gaza will not change, even if they bomb us with nuclear weapons," said resident Sultan Al-Saddah.
Members of the Houthi group, also known as Ansar Allah, also stressed that their support for Gaza will not change, and vowed retaliatory strikes of their own.
"Today's Israeli aggression against Yemen will not affect us or shake us in the slightest. Our work in support of Gaza will continue. Our missiles will reach Israel, and our military operations will continue to strike them, until the aggression stops and the siege on our brothers in Gaza is lifted," said Dhaifallah al-Shami, a member of the Ansar Allah political bureau, on Tuesday.
The Houthis later said on Wednesday that it had launched fresh drone attacks towards Israel, one day after it signed a ceasefire agreement with the United States, a deal it said does not extend to its operations against Israel. The group has vowed to continue launching such attacks until Israel ends its offensive in Gaza and lifts the blockade against Palestinians.
