2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) He Yadong, spokesman, Ministry of Commerce:
"China remains consistent in its position of firmly opposing the U.S. abuse of tariffs. If the U.S. side wants to resolve issues through negotiations, it must face the serious negative impacts of its unilateral tariffs on itself and the world, and respect international trade rules, fairness and justice, as well as rational voices from all sectors. The U.S. side must demonstrate sincerity, be well-prepared on issues including correcting its wrong practices and cancel unilateral tariffs, take actions to meet China halfway in a bid to resolve concerns of both sides through equal consultation. If the U.S. side fails to match its actions with its words, or even attempts to continue to coerce and blackmail in the name of holding talks, China will never agree, let alone seek to reach any agreement at the expense of sacrificing principles or international fairness and justice."
