Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on Friday called for remembering the shared World War II legacy in Moscow.
A grand parade was held at Red Square in Moscow on Friday to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War. Leaders from more than 20 countries and international organizations were invited to the event, among whom were Chinese President Xi Jinping and Lukashenko.
In an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), Lukashenko highlighted the shared sacrifices of Chinese and Soviet peoples during World War II. He stressed that their hard-won victory must not be forgotten amid rising global tensions.
"That was a feat of our people, the Soviet people. And China, who according to official estimates, lost 35 million people in the fight against Japanese militarism. So we were together then, and we ended the war, World War II, together in the Far East," said the Belarusian leader.
"That feat of ours and yours in World War II is very important for the current generation. We must defend our land, families, children and loved ones," he said.
