China announced on Tuesday that it will reduce additional tariffs on U.S. imports from 34 percent to 10 percent for a 90-day period starting from 12:01 p.m. on Wednesday.
The decision implements the "important consensus" reached during high-level trade talks held last weekend in Switzerland between the world's two largest economies, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council said in an official statement.
The Commission emphasized that the adjustment, approved by the State Council, aligns with domestic laws including China's Tariff Law, Customs Law, and Foreign Trade Law, as well as fundamental principles of international law.
According to the announcement, the temporary tariff cut will suspend an additional 24 percent duty previously imposed on American goods under the Commission's 2025 Notice No. 4. At the same time, China will halt the implementation of other tariff measures previously outlined in Notices No. 5 and No. 6.
The substantial reductions in tariffs by China and the U.S. reflect the shared expectations of producers and consumers in both countries, a welcome step that is poised to benefit bilateral trade and the global economy, the statement said.
