Russia will forward to Ukraine its phased technical proposal for a drafted memorandum outlining the framework for a future peace agreement in the coming days, according to Konstantin Kosachev, deputy speaker of the Russian Federation Council, the upper house of parliament, on Saturday.
Kosachev told a local media outlet that the drafting process has entered its final stage, but no public discussions on the details would take place at this point.
One day earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that work on the peace agreement memorandum is in its later stages, adding that Russia is preparing for the second round of negotiations with Ukraine, though the date and location for the talks remain undetermined.
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday regarding a memorandum for a potential future peace treaty.
Putin said that this treaty could define various aspects, "such as the principles of a settlement, the timing of a possible peace agreement," and "a possible ceasefire for a certain period given the relevant agreements are reached."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his phone conversation with Trump that his country would not accept any territorial concessions to Russia.
He also called on Trump not to make decisions about Ukraine without its participation.
On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russia and Ukraine would each draft their version of the memorandum, exchange drafts and work towards a unified text.
Peskov was quoted as saying that the process for Russia and Ukraine to agree on a unified peace and ceasefire memorandum will be challenging, making it impossible to set a firm deadline.
