Storyline

China's box office revenue for the 2025 Dragon Boat Festival holiday had surpassed 459 million yuan (about 63.71 million U.S. dollars) by 21:00 on Monday, an increase of 20 percent over the same period last year, according to online ticketing platforms.

The summer blockbuster "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning," the eighth installment in the long-running Hollywood action franchise, leads the holiday box office chart. As of 21:00, the film had grossed about 190 million yuan during the holiday period.

The annual festival, on the fifth day of the fifth month on the lunar Chinese calendar, fell on Saturday this year. It is a time to get rid of misfortune as venomous animals were believed to appear at this juncture. It is also a time to commemorate the beloved Chinese poet Qu Yuan (339-278 BC) from the Warring States Period (475-221 BC).
