2. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Lin Jian, spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"The Geneva consensus was reached on the basis of mutual respect and equal consultation between China and the U.S. China has diligently implemented the consensus in a responsible manner. However, the U.S. has, without any factual basis, smeared and accused China, while implementing extreme suppression measures, including chip export controls over China, halting sales of chip design software to China, and announcing the revocation of visas for Chinese students. These actions severely undermine the consensus and damage China's legitimate rights and interests. China firmly opposes this and has made solemn representations."

China urges the United States to stop spreading disinformation on the consensus reached during the China-U.S. economic and trade talks in Geneva, said Lin Jian, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at a press conference in Beijing on Tuesday.
Lin made the statement in response to a media query about the allegations made by the U.S. in recent days to the effect that China violated the consensus by adopting so-called "negative actions."
