3. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Lin Jian, spokesman, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ending with shot 4):
"The United States colluded with Japan, Australia and the Philippines at the Shangri-La Dialog to hype up the so-called 'China threat,' stoking confrontation among countries in the region over issues related to the East China Sea and South China Sea. China strongly deplores and firmly opposes it and has lodged serious diplomatic representations over the matter. Bloc politics and group confrontation reflect a Cold War mentality that is outdated, runs counter to the prevailing trend of the times and is unwelcome in the region. Such actions will not solve any problems, nor will they intimidate China."
