The United Nations Security Council convened an emergency meeting on Friday following Israel's attack on Iran which damaged nuclear facilities and caused casualties.
China and many nations condemned Israel's attack, which targeted nuclear installations, at the meeting.
Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, expressed serious concerns over the negative impact on diplomatic negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear issue.
He reiterated China's consistent stance on resolving the Iranian nuclear issue peacefully through dialog and negotiations, opposing the use of force, illegal unilateral sanctions, and armed attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities.
Fu emphasized that Iran, as a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), has the legitimate right to peaceful nuclear energy use, which should be fully respected.
"The sudden escalation of regional tensions again serves no one's interests. We urge Israel to immediately cease all military adventures and prevent further deterioration of the situation. We call on all relevant parties to abide by the UN Charter and international law, resolve disputes through political and diplomatic means, and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability," he said.
Fu also stressed that countries with significant influence over Israel should play a constructive role.
He urged the UN Security Council to utilize all tools under the UN Charter to ensure the implementation of relevant resolutions and fulfill its responsibility in maintaining peace and security in the region.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi also expressed grave concerns over Israel's strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities, warning that "any military action that jeopardizes the safety and security of nuclear facilities risks grave consequences for the people of Iran, the region, and beyond".
