Any attempt by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities to seek secession by resorting to force is doomed to fail, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday at a press briefing in Beijing.
When asked to comment on the remarks made by Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te on stepping up their monitoring and intelligence efforts in response to the mainland's military activities, Guo said that the DPP authorities just won't pass up any chance of newsjacking.
"No matter what they say or do, they can never change the fact that Taiwan is part of China, nor can they stop the historical trend towards China’s ultimate and inevitable reunification. Any attempt to seek secession by resorting to force is doomed to fail," Guo said.
