Chinese Premier Li Qiang held talks with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Beijing on Monday, with both sides pledging to enhance bilateral ties and deepen cooperation in various fields.
At the invitation of Li, Wong is in China for a five-day official visit starting from Sunday- his first official trip to the country as the prime minister of Singapore.
Prior to the talks, Li held a welcome ceremony for Wong in the Great Hall of the People. The military band played national anthems of the two countries. Wong, accompanied by Li, then reviewed the Guard of Honor of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
During the talks, Li said that China and Singapore are friendly neighbors and important partners. Over the past 35 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, the traditional friendship between China and Singapore has continued to deepen, and practical cooperation has yielded fruitful results.
President Xi Jinping will meet with Prime Minister Wong to make further plans for deepening and developing bilateral relations. China is willing to maintain close high-level exchanges with Singapore, strengthen strategic communication, consolidate political mutual trust, and promote more fruitful results in bilateral relations and cooperation, Li said.
Li said that China is willing to work together with Singapore to make good use of the bilateral cooperation mechanisms, jointly implement plans in Belt and Road cooperation, create more cooperation highlights in the fields of digital economy and artificial intelligence, actively expand third-party market cooperation, and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.
China and Singapore should uphold open regionalism and true multilateralism, and work together to maintain the stability and smooth flow of the global production and supply chain, Li added.
China is willing to work with Singapore and other ASEAN members to promote the signing and implementation of the Version 3.0 China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) as scheduled, implement the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) with high quality, and accelerate the process of regional economic integration.
Wong said that the Singapore-China relationship has become stronger over time. Singapore looks forward to taking the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to strengthen high-level exchanges and cooperation in various fields with China, deepen friendship and mutual trust, further expand third-party cooperation, and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.
Singapore has full confidence in the Chinese economy and is willing to strengthen multilateral communication and cooperation with China to safeguard free trade and the multilateral trading system, he said.
After the talks, Li and Wong jointly witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation documents on talent training, intellectual property rights and other issues.
